Rolls of Deco Mesh

What is Deco Mesh?

Deco mesh, also known as decorative mesh or poly mesh, is a type of woven plastic mesh ribbon that is commonly used in crafts and decorations. It is made from synthetic materials such as polypropylene and comes in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures.

Deco mesh is popular for making wreaths, garlands, and other decorative items because it is durable, flexible, and easy to work with. It can be cut to any length, and it holds its shape well, making it ideal for creating sculptural elements in decorations.

Deco mesh is often used as a base for attaching other decorative elements such as ribbons, ornaments, and floral picks. It can also be layered or twisted to create interesting textures and patterns. Because it is weather-resistant, it can be used both indoors and outdoors.

What is Deco Poly Mesh™?

Deco Poly Mesh™ is a registered trademark of Craig Bachman Imports, Inc. This brand of Deco Mesh is considered by many regular users to be superior in quality. Most of the Deco Poly Mesh™ branded products are manufactured in Korea to high standards. These controls ensure the deco mesh is soft on your hands, has consistent color, and that the shapes you make are voluminous and full-bodied.  We find that Deco Poly Mesh™ branded products measure up to their full advertised width and length, while some other brands come up a little short.

CraftOutlet.com is proud to carry a full selection of Deco Poly Mesh™.

How do you cut Deco Mesh?

Deco mesh can be cut with scissors, or a rotary cutting wheel on a cutting mat.

Due to the loosely woven construction, some types of deco mesh will want to fray on their cut ends. The extent of fraying will depend on the brand, and the materials woven. Our traditional Deco Poly Mesh™ has will have very minimal fraying. While we absolutely love the finished look of our Poly Burlap Mesh, we do find that it presents fraying challenges and needs extra attention.

Customers have reported success in preventing this fraying with a variety of techniques, such as slightly melting the cut ends with heat, or applying liquid fray stop products available at most fabric stores.

Customers cutting a lot of mesh may want to speed up this process. While we cannot recommend it, we have seen wood burning tools used to slice through mesh, and even impulse sealers (bag sealers) used on a high heat setting to melt through the mesh. If you choose this option, please do so carefully and at your own risk. Be aware that any time you are applying heat to polypropylene ("melting plastic") there will be fumes -- take appropriate precautions (ventilation / mask). We absolutely do not recommend applying an open flame to plastic!

Safety Notes: The major component of deco mesh is polypropylene, which is considered non-toxic1Contact with hot or molten material may cause severe thermal bums. Inhalation: Inhalation of fine particles may cause respiratory irritation. Fumes produced while thermal processing may cause irritation, pulmonary edema and a possible asthma-like response.

Other materials woven into some types of mesh (jute, fabrics, metallic foil) may not be safe to heat. Please take this into consideration before attempting to heat any mesh products.
