Perfect for Christmas decorating, equestrian-themed spaces, or anyone who loves unique, nature-inspired designs, this project blends classic farmhouse charm with creative flair. You’ll learn how to layer texture and greenery for a lifelike mane, attach moss neatly for full coverage, and add finishing touches that make your wreath truly one of a kind.
Whether you hang it on your front door, barn, or stable gate, this wreath is sure to turn heads (literally!).
Notes:
- We made this gorgeous door hanger on the flat, horse head shaped UITC wreath form.
- The "mane character", the Bead Grass greenery, comes in bushes of 6 pre-assembled stems, you will need 6 total bushes. The same method will work with other draping greenery of your choosing!
- The bow can be made with any ribbons you love! We used red faux burlap. We found the dainty 7/8" width to be the perfect size to not overpower the design. You could construct a faux bridle with ribbons instead of a bow.
- Any holly leaves & red berries will do, but the pick we chose has a great mix of holly & eucalyptus with a wintery frosted finish.

Want a professional, finished look? Cover the back of the UITC board with inexpensive fabric like felt or velveteen. Especially useful for glass doors!

- To glue down the moss, we used Aleene's DIY Craft Heavy-Duty Adhesive Spray 11 oz, Strong Hold (available in the Walmart Arts & Crafts Aisle) - this adhesive sprays on like silly string instead of a fine mist, making it more controllable.
- What makes this moss truly stand out is its unique, interwoven texture — the fabric fibers naturally cling together, much like the faux spider web material often used for Halloween décor. This creates an easy-to-handle product with minimal shedding. In our application tests, the moss performed best when applied in a thin layer (approximately 0.75"–1" thick) with a heavy duty spray adhesive. And it's forgiving - if you miss a spot, you can lift up the moss and respray the adhesive. To ensure lasting durability, we also tested the finished surface with a handheld air blower — and the moss held firmly in place with no material loss.

I made this for my family that lives in Dallas Texas! It was so much bigger than I expected and was beautiful when it was completed!
