This faux burlap ribbon has an open weave and a rough texture, similar to the real deal.

Wired Ribbon - Splice Disclaimer

Wired edge ribbons (from Craft Outlet or otherwise) may not always be a single continuous piece.  In cases where a spool has been spliced, the factory has been instructed to provide 6" or more of extra ribbon to make up for any associated waste.

Most spools will be continuous without splices, but not all. Customers finding a splice will typically adjust their bows to hide the splice within a fold.

How are the ends when cut? Does it hold together well?

The 2.5" Faux Burlap Ribbon: Natural (10 Yards) - RG01896 has an open weave so, if it's cut, the edges will fray a bit, similar to regular burlap. The ribbon is burlap and jute so, be careful not to over manipulate the material to ensure the weave isn't opened too much.
